Competency A
Define
My understanding of competency A is being capable of using information technology to resolve problems in the EHR system. Current information technology allows us to collect data to better manage healthcare field issues such as data collecting and tracking. However, to achieve better care, we need to improve system design, EHR implementation, and integration between platforms within the health field (The American College of Obstetricians Gynecologists Committee Opinion, 2015). The definition of competency provided by Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society is the ability to “apply or use a set of related knowledge, skills and abilities required to successfully perform critical work functions or tasks in a defined work setting” (Morawski, 2021). HIMSS competency definition emphasizes a fact that one the key qualifications of health informatics a health informatics is to use technology to solve information problems in a clinical field. Aickelin et al defined the role of health informatics specialty is “the practice of acquiring, studying and managing health data, and applying medical concepts in conjunction with information technology systems to help clinicians provide better healthcare” (Aickelin et al., 2019, p. 2). In general, a qualified health informatics needs knowledge of medical field, data science and information technology.

Through the course INFM200 Informatics: Fundamentals, I developed the skills to bring together my working experience, the problems I identified within the EHR system, the facts about risk management in long term care environment, data collecting, and data analyzing into a research report. The INFM 207 DAM-Digital Assets Management course taught me the concepts of metadata, data workflow, taxonomy, digital asset lifecycle. The course also provided me and opportunity to understand importance of storing, sharing, and organizing all digital assets for organizations current and long-term management. Also, it allowed me to create a project plan for a digital asset management implementation for a specific field.

INFM 200 Informatics Fundamentals
The title of the paper is Utilizing Electronic Health Records to Manage Risks in Long-Term Care Settings and Optimization Suggestions. The aim of this paper is to explore the benefits of electronic heath records for risk management in long-term care facilities, and the litigation concerns in risky areas that lack EHRs. The paper outlined an optimization plan to improve EHR risk management functions to reduce lawsuit risks and deficiency citations, thereby advancing in-patient care outcomes and patient safety in long-term care settings.

INFM207 DAM- Digital Asset Management Project #2.
The goal of the project is to provide an efficient system that helps a wound care center to manage their procedure videos and photographs. Also, their wound care assets can be educational materials for a wound care certificate program in a local nursing school. I came up with a plan to create a system effectively managing digital assets including inventory, storage, retrieval, and distribution. My DAM system provided an access of years of wound care procedure videos and photos to the end users such as physicians, nurses, and students in WC certification program. My metadata design is easy to search by using common concepts in clinical wound management because I used detailed metadata, well-structured indexing, and search tools. I also add pictures of recommended wound dressing or ointment to each type of wounds. This is a good learning material and will be beneficial for the students and nurses working in wound care center.
Summary
The courses that I completed helped me to build the specialized knowledge to advance me in the healthcare informatics field. Reflecting on what I learned throughout the whole program, I do believe that many efforts that I put in to complete those courses are paying off, because I am capable of thinking like a healthcare informatics in terms of applying technology skills, spotting problems in EHR system, being desire to figure out solutions, designing user-centered program to improve patient care and safety. I believe that I developed the competency A to be a qualified health informatics in near future.
